Vava'u Tonga
ONE of the top vacation spots in the South Pacific is Vava'u, a cluster of islands located in the heart of the Kingdom of Tonga. With its protected harbours, countless islands and uninhabited beaches it is a popular region for sailing. The Port of Refuge harbour alongside the main town of Neiafu is dotted with local and international yachts. Large cruise ships also call in to the bay, where passengers may disembark via tenders to explore the laid-back town, shop for souvenirs and frequent the many modern cafes, bars and restaurants.
Vava'u offers one of the largest ranges of accommodation in Tonga. Visitors may choose between stylish island resorts and budget beach fales. There are also guest houses, apartments and lodges close to town, each providing a convenient base from which to explore all that the region has to offer. Diving, sailing and gamefishing are three of the top activities. Whalewatching is also offered at certain times of the year but those who come only for the whalewatching season often miss out on some of the calmest seas and best accommodation specials available in Vava'u! Vava'u is a year-round vacation spot.
